US Customs and Border Protection Administrative/General Clerk

Location: Port of New York/Newark; 1100 Raymond Blvd, Newark, NJ 07102

Hours - Part-time (20 hours a week); can work 12PM-4PM, 1PM-5PM or 2PM-6PM

Salary/Rate:

$16.86/hr + $4.80/hr Health & Welfare per hour (to go towards medical, dental, vision benefits costs; if not used for benefits, H&W is automatically put into 401k account on employees behalf); 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 year of service (hiring anniversary date), 10 Paid Federal Holidays

Daily activities will include:

  • Requesting additional information from appropriate officers and special agents within DHS
  • Prepare and distribute documents relating to seizures, penalties, and claims for liquidated damages
  • Reviewing and summarizing information in prescribed format
  • Maintaining case files from initiation though completion
  • Retrieving all incoming office correspondence and appropriately distributing to assigned personnel
  • Provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Personnel will use various software applications such as word processing and spreadsheets to retrieve data from various databases in conjunction with assignments
  • Additional requirements include scanning, printing, copying, fax, mail, telephone and other services to support the paralegal and executive team

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in typing, data entry, operation of a computer, photocopier and other office equipment required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel required
  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required
  • All candidates must pass a federal background investigation prior to starting work; US Citizenship is required; background check can take 1-3+ months to process and MUST be done prior to starting work

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is one of the largest components of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with a priority mission of keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. It also has a responsibility for securing and facilitating trade and travel while enforcing hundreds of U.S. regulations, including immigration and drug laws. Within CBP, Office of Field Operations (OFO), the Fines, Penalties and Forfeitures (FP&F) program is responsible for efficiently processing all seizure, penalty and liquidated damages cases, while ensuring due process of law.

The candidate shall perform various administrative and clerical assignments to drive execution for core team operations. The selected candidate shall interface with Agency employees, other employees within OFO, and commercial Vendors responsible for narcotics destruction services, including scheduling and processing paperwork to support the destruction efforts.
