RANGE OF DUTIES:

  • Serve as technical subject matter experts and engineering authorities for Sentinel SLP-A, which is responsible for development of a remote ICBM launch control terminal, and subsequent integration and installation of that terminal onto a Navy aircraft platform.
  • Electronics Engineers advise on technical design of Group-A kit/SLP-A system architecture including data analyses, design verification, specification development, and modeling & simulation of SLP-A systems and their interfaces during the development, production and deployment, and sustainment phases of the product life cycle.
  • Analyses of data may include but are not limited to: electrical interfaces; electronic devices; integrated circuitry; electrical wiring interface systems; sizing and selection of components; analog and digital conversion; test instrumentation; cable and harness testing; control and test equipment; and electrical certifications.
  • Electronics Engineers may also oversee SLP-A software development work, to include software architecture modeling, Computer Software Configuration Item development, software test, certifications (i.e. nuclear surety, cyber, and airworthiness), and Agile planning and execution events.
  • Mechanical Engineers are responsible for the mechanical architecture, SLP-A console development, physical design, and manufacturing of the SLP-A crew and maintenance training devices.
  • In addition, mechanical engineers verify the contractor team's engineering architecture, mechanical specifications, 3D Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing models, develop test verification methodologies, and stress, strain, finite element, etc., design analysis from a mechanical engineering perspective which will be used to inform aircraft modification plans and airworthiness certification.
  • As an engineer on a multi-disciplinary team, provides technical leadership and expertise on contractor work performance to include tracking progress, evaluating work products, supporting missions, and facilitating process development/improvement initiatives.
  • Proactively develops and presents technical briefings and reports to program stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Responsible for leading integration efforts with extended and geographically dispersed stakeholders including: subject matter experts from across the AFNWC, Support Contractors, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC), Air Force Safety Center (AFSEC), Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), Navy Airborne Strategic Command, Control & Communications Program Office (PMA-271); Command & Launch, Infrastructure & Deployment, Mission Defense, Systems Engineering, Safety, and Cyber & Nuclear Certification teams; and other stakeholder representatives to ensure Sentinel SLP-A activities are successfully planned, coordinated, and executed.
SKILLS:
  • Experience in aircraft production or modification/sustainment programs is required.
  • Understanding of DoD weapon systems issues, and experience working with government organizations in areas such as research and development, design, acquisition, production, maintenance, repair, engineering support, testing and evaluation, and/or system modification is highly valued.
  • Experience developing or reviewing airworthiness certification impacts & analyses and/or system safety assessments is preferred.
  • Experience with Group A (wiring, installation brackets, etc.) and Group B (boxes/hardware) kit development, integration test and checkout, nuclear certification of the hardware, and/or modification of aircraft is highly valued.
  • Experience related to aircraft electrical design, power systems, harness/bundle construction, cable routing, electrical standards and specifications, testing, management, data analysis and problem identification, and problem solving through innovative approaches is desired.
  • Experience with MIL-HDBK-516, aircraft software programs, Operational Flight Programs, software maintenance, and Nuclear Safety Cross Check Analysis is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with the DoD Digital Engineering concepts, Model Based Systems Engineering principles, and Agile Software Development in scrum, Kanban, scaling agile, Agile architectures, user stories, or test-first is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Time Compliant Technical Orders, Technical Directives, Airworthiness Change Bulletins, Installation Data Packages, etc., is preferred.
  • Familiarity with design concepts and certification related to cyber and nuclear systems is a plus.

1. Knowledge of professional mechanical engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services.
2. Knowledge of development testing and evaluation sufficient to apply experimental theories and/or new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of mechanical systems, subsystems, devices, and/or equipment.
3. Knowledge of integrated air-vehicles, ground systems, and support equipment sufficient to plan, design, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and oversee the development and/or sustainment of mechanical components, devices, and/or systems.
4. Knowledge of the principles of planning and program management; standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; other engineering disciplines; and computer aided design and drafting (CADD) programs and other software such as information management and project tracking programs.
5. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches and to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes.

A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline is highly desired.
