Duties

Duty 1: Applies an extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, methods, and techniques of electronic test and repair on a broad variety of operational IT equipment (i.e., Servers, Blades, Routers, Switches, Printers, Scanners, Computers, Thin Clients, Multi-Function Devices, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure equipment)

Duty 2: Performs in-depth analysis of equipment error logs and failures to reproduce failure, reproduce the environmental conditions, and makes all maintenance actions necessary to repair the equipment

Duty 3: Performs critical inspections to identify manufacturing or design flaws that can affect physical or electrical reliability and maintainability causing unacceptable risks

Duty 4: Represents the CSSA program and AFLCMC/HNCM at his/her functional area of responsibility

Duty 5: Enforces occupational and environmental safety standards, fire protection, and good housekeeping habits.
Mitigates possible hazards; identifies Personal Protective Equipment requirements

Duty 6: Exercises necessary security measures to ensure protection of classified materials. Completes all security oriented training within suspense periods/due dates. Maintain AFLCMC/HNCM security measures IA W COMPUSEC and OPSEC standards.

Qualifications

This is a GG-12 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-12 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-12 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirement for GS-0856 Series.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying:

  • knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics, such as a knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics;
  • knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance; and
  • knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems related to, but less than, a full professional knowledge of electronic engineering.

Electronics technicians may have gained experience assisting in work situations including:

Maintenance - Developing maintenance standards and procedures for use by others. Analyzing repair practices and developing procedural instructions for use by others on methods and steps to repair equipment.

Installation - Planning and directing the installation of complex systems and associated facilities, particularly where there are site selection and construction problems, dealings with contractors and public utilities, and the possible need to modify equipment for novel site characteristics.

Fabrication - Designing and analyzing circuits, determining design feasibility, evaluating equipment performance under varying environmental conditions, and collecting performance data. Designing or modifying designs to achieve performance and cost objectives. Evaluating the adequacy of equipment for such purposes as repair, calibration, and testing.

Testing and Evaluation/Research and Development - Developing or evaluating new or modified electronic systems. Completing testing, evaluating data, and determining acceptability of equipment modifications, validity, test procedures and data, or legality of operation.

Sustainment - Developing, performing, evaluating, or modifying calibration and test equipment, systems, and procedures. Reporting, analyzing, and archiving test data. Performing complex calculations and manipulations of test data to improve performance of systems, instrumentation, measurement standards, techniques, and procedures.

Troubleshooting - Analyzing and diagnosing faults in the operational configuration of electronic systems and equipment.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • Must be trained and certified on assigned equipment, ability to apply and convert knowledge of equipment/systems and design/test methodologies into detailed but practical depot level maintenance test procedures, and/or local work cards.
  • CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications or equivalent to meet DoD 8570.01-M requirements for Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II (Reference DoD 8570.01-M)
  • Knowledge of electronics engineering technician practices, methods, techniques, processes and operations, terminology, and design as they relate to depot level test and repair. Ability to apply knowledge and convert it into practical depot level maintenance procedures
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques and ability to read engineering plans and specifications to include computer aided design technology
  • Ability to maintain good working relations with applicable stakeholders, co-workers, peers, and management (Site and AFLCMC/HNC). Coordinates effectively with equipment specialists, engineers, system managers, and program offices to identify specific maintenance training requirements, and to develop and adjust plans and schedules to meet requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates, peers, and upper management, both orally and in writing, and to work effectively with groups and individuals in planning efforts and in working out solutions to problems or questions
  • Expert knowledge of technical specifications/data to develop, collect, analyze, evaluate, and interpret specifications, schematics, engineering drawing, test reports, original equipment manufacturer technical specifications/technical data when developing/establishing depot level maintenance capabilities
  • Knowledge of both site and AFLCMC/HNC organizational and functional responsibilities and operations
  • Expert knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, principles, methods, procedures, and other guidance related to various functions of life-cycle sustainment/maintenance support; in depth understanding of the interrelationships of various disciplines required to manage systems/projects/programs
  • Knowledge of safety and occupational health practices as they relate to electronics technician performance requirements; ability to research, analyze, interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures; knowledge of applicable security practices.
