Canton Stevedoring Co. of Ohio is the employer at the Sandusky Dock Corp. on Lake Erie. Our employees work as a team to receive railroad cars of coal, transfer the cargo to ground storage and load it into ships and barges. The coal is shipped to steel mills on the Great Lakes.

The job guarantees 40 hours per week. Two shifts: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm to 3:30 am. With overtime, shifts can be up to 12 hours. Candidates must be willing to work either shift. There is weekend overtime work when we are loading vessels.
Ideal candidates will have some experience operating heavy equipment, or otherwise be mechanically inclined, will be punctual, and eager to learn new jobs.
We will train you to operate various machines and equipment, and increase pay as you learn these jobs.
Daily assignment of jobs will depend on the work required. At times, you may clean areas of excess coal, work as a mechanic's or electrician's helper or other jobs to maintain our facility.
After a 90-day probationary period, newly hired employees will become members of International Longshoremen's Association local #2059.
