ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES HEAD GROUNDSKEEPER JOB DESCRIPTION
The Albuquerque Isotopes, award winning Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, are seeking a Head Groundskeeper. Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park is the home of the Isotopes and has a long-standing history of excellence in within the sports turf industry. RGCU Field is also the current home to the USL’s New Mexico United. This position, while being responsible for all the standard duties relative to being the Head Groundskeeper for the Isotopes, will additionally be responsible for the process of converting the field to/from soccer multiple times a season, as well as field set up/tear down and supervision during New Mexico United soccer matches.
Duties
The Head Groundskeeper is responsible for oversight/execution of all mowing, edging, skin maintenance, clay repair, mound construction/repair, granular and spray fertilization program development and execution, sod work, management of game day crew, field setup and break down of batting practice, overseeing all in-game grounds activities, monitoring/communication during all weather-related and/or tarp situations, irrigation system maintenance/repair, moisture management of all surfaces, light construction projects, standard equipment maintenance, interviewing/hiring of all grounds crew staff, and any additional duties deemed necessary.
Education/Experience
A four-year turf management or related degree is preferred, but not required. A turfgrass degree or certification from a program of 2 years or more is required per Major League Baseball. A minimum of five years’ experience in a professional baseball setting is preferred, with experience as a Head Groundskeeper being optimal. Experience setting up and managing outside events, specifically soccer, within a baseball stadium setting is also preferred.
Skills
Ability to adapt to the cultural practice limitations and timing constraints due to the multiple field conversions will be paramount. There will be a strong emphasis on ability to communicate effectively and efficiently. Being comfortable directing multiple crews simultaneously will be a must. Lifting and maneuvering weight exceeding 50 pounds regularly is necessary. Experience with operating/maintaining mowers, tractors, utility carts, aerators and all other standard grounds keeping equipment is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office/Word/Excel programs is required. Previous experience working with time keeping/payroll programs is also preferred.
