Human Resources Generalist

The human resource generalist will be responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting designated geographic regions. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, and performance management, on boarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

  • Provide Employee Relations support, through partnership, and coaching for all employees and levels of management in the organization
  • Serve as subject matter expert on employee and labor relations, personnel suitability, and performance issues
  • Advise managers about appropriate disciplinary or other corrective techniques that are responsive to a range of conduct and performance
  • Provide guidance and advice on disciplinary and adverse action, grievances, appeals, and leave administration
  • Recommend an appropriate range of penalties, consistent with progressive discipline throughout the organization, and progressive discipline throughout the organization
  • Respond to inquiries and procedures for disciplinary actions, grievances, and appeals concerning timeliness, documentation, and other requirements
  • Present briefings and/or training sessions to management pertaining to ER topics (e.g. performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Conduct impartial administrative investigations, as requested, and prepare a report of findings and recommend appropriate action
  • Managing and responding to unemployment claims for designated clients
  • Maintains guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures
  • Supports benefits administration, including claims resolution and communicating benefits information to employees as needed
  • Maintains system records and compiles reports from the database
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations
  • Serve as a liaison to the community by being a source of information to those seeking Agency services, updates, or troubleshooting on pending UI claims
  • Resolve complaints by listening to claimants, legal service providers, community groups, elected officials and businesses who represent claimants


Preferred Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree and three to five years of HR experience or seven years of experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential.

The HR Generalist position will be located in our office in Sugar Land, Texas. This candidate will be trained in HR duties but also get additional training in areas of Worker Comp, General Liability, Unemployment, and some payroll duties such as Child Support and Wage Garnishments. A working knowledge of HR laws is necessary.
