Position Summary:
Responsible for administering physical exams, developing diagnoses and treatment plans, monitoring patient conditions, making referrals, and coordinating care for City employees, retirees, and their dependents. Also, responsible for providing patient education and coaching on City health & wellness programs focused on prevention, detection, condition management and related options.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Conduct physical exams and comprehensive medical assessments of City employees, retirees, and their dependents with acute and/or chronic health problems and minor injuries.
  • Order and evaluate diagnostic tests.
  • Establish a medical diagnosis; perform and monitor therapeutic procedures; order appropriate treatment and prescribe and regulate medications per physician's agreed protocol.
  • Counsel with patients and families on health promotion, diagnosis, and prognosis.
  • Seek physician consultations and make referrals when appropriate.
  • Supervise and act as a resource to the health care staff.
  • Provide expertise and support to ensure adherence to best practices for overall Clinic operations.
Minimum Education & Work Experience : •Nurse Practitioner: Registered Nurse with a Master’s Degree in Nursing and completion of an accredited advanced practice nurse program; or •Physician Assistant: Master’s Degree and completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills:
Education/ Experience:
  • In addition to those listed above, 2-3 years of experience practicing as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Licensed Physician Assistant in a family practice setting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of techniques and equipment used in examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patient illness and injury
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients to obtain patient input and evaluate a combination of complex information and develop diagnosis
  • Ability to effectively communicate with physicians and other medical providers
  • Ability to coordinate medical providers and vendors for health and wellness promotion programs
  • Ability to supervise professional medical staff
Licenses & Certifications: •Valid Class C Texas driver's license •License to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant in the State of Texas Physical Tasks & Working Conditions: The incumbent works typically in an office/clinic environment with exposure to patient illness and may be subjected to occasional travel to various job sites and health care facilities and lifting up to thirty pounds. Office/Clinic environment frequently requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling during examination of patients and operation of a motor vehicle. Routinely works with medical sharps requiring universal precautions to avoid contact with pathogens. May be exposed to biohazards and infections carried by humans and bodily fluids. Employee may occasionally be required to respond or provide advice and assistance to employees and other City departments after hours, weekends, or holidays for major injuries or catastrophic events.
