Chewy is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the founding team focused on launching end customer facing products that will delight and engage pet parents and partners everywhere. You will own the technical design, development, and implementation of a suite of new services that will intersect with all functions and teams across Chewy, from core shopping to operations to healthcare. As a Senior Software Engineer on this 0-to-1 team, you will lead engineering in the design and build of robust, resilient products and services on a scalable platform. Your goal will be to architect and build production-ready code and champion CI/CD processes to ensure speed and quality. You will provide technical guidance and coaching to teams of high caliber engineers. Your work will directly impact tens of millions of customers who care for their furry family members every day! You will be a part of an amazing, fast-growing team, working on flagship products of the company. As a full stack developer, you will have the ability to experience working with UI, microservice based backend, and data processing, all while solving complex customer and business problems.

What You'll Do:

  • Play a hands-on role in design, build, deploy and scale of a complete platform across backend and frontend technologies.
  • Decompose complex problems into simple straight-forward solutions that operationally scale and are easily maintained.
  • Define and communicate clear design patterns and coding standards.
  • Guide and mentor engineers, build and foster strong engineering team culture, and be a key contributor in raising the bar of the engineering org.
  • Build a culture of innovation through rapid prototyping and continuous delivery to Production.

What You'll Need:

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience that includes programming experience with Java, JavaScript or similar programming languages.
  • Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Proven ability to define and communicate clear design patterns and coding standards.
  • Experience developing software in an agile environment with CI/CD.
  • Proven experience working with modern SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Strong fundamentals on building and scaling cloud-based solutions
  • Bachelor's degree (Computer Science or similar technical field of study), or equivalent work experience

Bonus:

  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience developing software for end customers.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $107,000-$215,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
