Job Description

Objective:


To provide efficient service in construction, operations, replacement, removal and maintenance work on electrical transmission lines and substations.


Duties / Responsibilities:


Be able to perform all duties of line crew personnel including but not limited to:


  • Generally, the work schedule will be Monday-Thursday 6:30-4:30
  • From time to time position will be required to work out of town
  • Work schedule can change due to training, etc.
  • Position will not be line work every day - could be substation work, fiber work, line inspection, line and substation switching
  • Hot stick 34kV and 69 kV from time to time
  • Position will require crew rotation to get familiar with all aspects of PPI
  • Frame poles and install pole fixtures.
  • Assist in stringing wire.
  • Be familiar with and installation of poles, blocks and other rigging equipment.
  • Be familiar with proper use of tools and work equipment and keeps his personal tools in good repair.
  • Receive communications and directions with full understanding.
  • Watch for and report line conditions in need of correction.
  • Operate boom truck winch and digger when assigned.
  • Perform all duties of retirement and removal of electrical lines.
  • Operate line and substation switches and replaces substation fuses.
  • Assist in installing and connecting transformers, regulators and equipment.
  • Requisition material as required.
  • Covers under build distributions as necessary.
  • Equipment is all late model-well kept- the expectation will be to take the utmost care of the equipment.


Be able to instruct and assist apprentice lineman and to accomplish the work in a safe and productive manner.


Must have acquired a working knowledge of applied electricity and AC electrical circuits.


Must be able to work from sketches and specification sheets.


Assist Substation Foreman/Line Foreman in all types of substation construction and/or maintenance.


Work with the Reliability Compliance Officer, Area Managers, supervisor and each department to assist with the development and implementation of processes and procedures necessary to meet the requirements of the Reliability Standards identified by the Reliability Compliance Plan. Review and provide recommendations to proposed Reliability Standards that affect the PPI Cooperatives. Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with approved Compliance Procedures. Report any suspected violations of non-compliance to the Reliability Compliance Officer.


Accept and perform other related duties and responsibilities which may be assigned.


Education & Experience Requirements:


High school and associate or two-year technical degree in electrical technology or related field required. Closely related and progressive job experience may substitute for a portion of the educational requirements.

Three-year Apprentice Lineman completion


Five years electrical experience required


CDL Driver License and physical card


Traffic Control Certificate, CPR, and First Aid

Possible frequent after-hours service calls to restore power outages and problems. Possibility of working continuous and lengthy hours with minimal rest.
