This person will have responsibility for the daily hands-on operational management of a defined set of laboratories. They will act as the first point of contact for all research staff to deal with problems within the laboratories. They will liaise with AstraZeneca’s Facility Management (FM) team, other suppliers, senior stakeholders and scientists to ensure continuity of key technical services. The person will need to able to work in an independent manner and propose improvements in the labs and ways of work as well as document their progress.
Day to day lab management responsibilities
Hands-on operational management of a defined set of laboratories providing a ‘single point of contact’ for laboratory scientists, FM, and safety teams.
Networks with all lab operation teams, scientists, and suppliers including organizing supplies, planning preventative and scheduled maintenance regimes with minimal impact to daily operations, ensuring any FM helpdesk requests are completed, and working with suppliers and scientists on improvement projects.
Organizes lab spaces, lab benches, storage assignments, supplies, and equipments to ensure labs maintain their operational efficiency.
Facilitates laboratory consumable inventories and provides reports to the Department’s leadership team as requested.
Reviews and performs lab support staff training to ensure all are working to a consistent level.
Assists scientists, FM, safety teams to resolve problems and implement actions required.
Provides operational support on projects to build understanding of business needs and identify opportunities for process improvements.
Organizes and leads regular lab improvement projects and leads any actions as required.
Assist in biosience lab space planning for our new lab space in Kendall Square
Must be flexible with working hours when necessary.
Qualifications:
A degree in biomedical sciences or related disciplines.
Knowledge of biological and chemical safety requirements in a laboratory environment.
Multiple years’ experience working in a laboratory environment ideally with previous laboratory management responsibility.
