The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) full-time, limited term position in the class of Social Services Assistant at the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA).

The incumbent will work with the Neighborhood Court (NHC) program. NHC is an adult criminal diversion program. NHC uses the principles of restorative justice to resolve offenses outside of the traditional court room. It is a collaborative effort between the cities of Davis, West Sacramento, and Woodland, along with UC Davis, local police department, and Cache Creek Casino. This limited term position with an expected expiration date of 3/31/2024.

Definition
Learns and performs a variety of non-technical, para-professional social service support functions; and performs other related duties as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This class is distinguished from other social service support classes by the training and supervision required, and by the limited scope of independent actions they may exercise. While incumbents are supervised by a first line supervisor, they may receive training and direction from professional staff.

Essential Functions

  • Interviews clients to obtain financial, medical and social information;
  • Assists clients in gathering information relating to application, continuation or termination of social service programs and in completing related documents;
  • Transports, assists, teaches, demonstrates and encourages clients in household management, household maintenance tasks, personal and child care, banking and money management.
  • Completes forms and documents for clients on behalf of the agency;
  • Interacts with governmental, community and social service agencies on behalf of the client and/or agency;
  • Engages in parent education to facilitate interaction between parent(s) and child(ren);
  • Under directions, assists clients in developing parenting and independent living skills;
  • Provides protective supervision in order to safeguard a client;
  • Refers clients to agency and/or community resources;
  • Confers with supervisor and/or professional staff on client functioning and service plan’
  • Prepares notices, correspondence and reports;
  • Maintains case files and records;
  • Performs program-related clerical duties;
  • Schedules and coordinates appointments;
  • Transports clients to appointments and needed services;
  • Assists client’s positioning, turning, and repositioning on and off seats, and into and out of vehicles;
  • Assists clients with bedpans, changing diapers, dressing, undressing, menstrual care, ambulating, bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, getting into and out of bed;
  • Engages in preventative, maintenance, or rehabilitation tasks with the client.
  • Participates in training programs; and
  • Orders supplies for staff.

Some positions may require the performance of different essential or other duties depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.

Employment Standards

Experience: Six months’ paid or unpaid experience working with children, the elderly, disabled, ill, or convalescent persons.

License

Acceptable forms of educational documentation are official or unofficial transcripts that list the student's name, institution name, field of study and date the degree was awarded.

For recent graduates who have not received proof of their degree yet, a letter from the registrar's office stating that all requirements for graduation have been met and listing the field of study will be sufficient proof of graduation.
