Job Description

The Conflicts Analyst is primarily responsible for running conflict searches and providing the search results to attorneys needing this information in an accurate and timely manner. The Conflicts Analyst will be the primary point of contact for conflicts searches within the firm, and will be supported by a team of individuals who will be available for assistance during times of high demand.

The Conflicts Analyst will be a resource for attorneys and staff with questions related to new matter intake, and will serve as the gatekeeper for the import of new matter information into the Accounting system. This position reports to the Director of Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct conflict of interest searches for attorneys from all Pierce Atwood offices.
  • Utilize internal and external databases and other legal resources as necessary to obtain information about the nature of an entity’s role in a particular matter; identify relevant corporate affiliations.
  • Review the conflict search results for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Provide a report containing the search results to each requestor.
  • Incorporate the search results into the workflow process for setting up new matters.
  • Coordinate with the individuals serving in a backup role to ensure that all conflict search requests receive a prompt response.
  • Review and process all new matter and declination requests.
  • Update / maintain the conflict database.
  • Update / maintain standard party / corporate family links in the conflicts database.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • General understanding of how various parties to a legal transaction or lawsuit may give rise to a conflict.
  • Skill with database searches so as not to inadvertently limit search results.
  • Ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff throughout the firm.
  • Ability to consistently exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to work independently while safeguarding confidential information.
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to respond to requests in a prompt, professional manner.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, professional environment where deadlines and priorities may change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years relevant work experience; preferably in a law firm.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous conflicts search and / or paralegal experience preferred.
