Job Description

Duties

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the execution of a comprehensive Public Affairs program integrating media relations, social media, community relations, internal information, visual information, communication planning, contingency/crisis response, special event planning, security and policy review, and Public Affairs resource management elements.
  • Represents the office with a variety of installation and local governmental, public, civic, service, industry, educational, and
    media organizations.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities at least 25% of the time.
  • Advises on the potential public reaction to proposed policies, plans, and actions.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with installation commanders and directors; intergovernmental and nongovernmental leaders; local/state/federal elected and appointed officials; news media, think tank, and entertainment industry representatives; business, professional and academic leaders; civic leaders; and the general public.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of the concepts, principles, policies, and practices of a Public Affairs program.
2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of written and oral communication and visual information principles, methods, and techniques to determine the need for, plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate Public Affairs and multimedia activities.
4. Skill in gathering, evaluating, and interpreting data to arrive at valid conclusions and offer meaningful recommendations.
5. Skill in producing written information for audiences with different levels of understanding.
6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
